Lets not forget lead poisoning is still real. The levels of lead are still above acceptable levels. The EPA is being petitioned to lower the standards. This is determined by looking at skeletons from before the industrial revolution. Lead poses many ramifications with the populace.
- The physically damaging physical effects of lead because it is hard to get out of the body. It contributes to dementia as one gets older and is released form bone reduction. The health costs are incredibly large as special care is needed.
- Now heavy particles have accumulated in the soil which have gotten released during drought conditions. This is how the sins of our past are now catching up as climate change is uncovering the evil bug (so to speak). It should be noted that aviation fuel contains lead along with softer brass.
- Plumbing still contains lead particularly in solder if one uses metal pipes. And ammunition used by US gun culture is full of lead. As the world goes thru industrialization, like China, even coal burning sends lead up into the atmosphere and is deposited elsewhere.
- This is important because of an apparent correlation of lead to violence. The general ill effects of lead are covered by this article. And, where there was a slow decrease in lead usage, the violence levels also dropped. I look forward to more work done to verify this observation; but, the evidence seems strong.
This is a concern that seems to be similar to asbestos. Soon, I am sure there will be a mad dash to change things. The lead particulates in the soil seems to be a problem. The next thing is to figure out how to chelate lead and flush it out of the body.
